Pallipuram to get facelift
Monday October 29 2007 12:52 IST

ALAPPUZHA: The suburbs of Cherthala, where vast stretches of barren land have been lying unutilised, is set to get a facelift at last.

The Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation (KSIDC) is set to facilitate the coming up of two major development projects worth crores of rupees on the 270-acre land owned by the organisation at Pallipuram in Cherthala.

As per the plan, an IT Park and a Coir Park will be set up in the area. The proximity to Kochi and the availability of the vast stretch of land has brightened the prospects of the industrial area.

The Coir Park will be set up by the KSIDC itself. The contours of setting up an IT Park are being discussed with the Muthoot Group which has shown interest in the project.

According to KSIDC sources, the Muthoot Group is planning to set up an eight-floor IT Park on the model of the Technopolis building owned by them in the Infopark at Kakkanad in Kochi.

‘‘But the new project is being planned in a bigger magnitude. The floor area of the proposed IT Park building itself will be three times bigger than that in Kakkanad. The talks between the Muthoot group and the KSIDC are progressing. Pallipuram is geographically close to Kochi metro after the completion of the Arrokutty bridge and this has set the entrepreneurs’ eye on the area,’’ District Industries Centre General Manager Latheef said.
