Kochi - The Kochi-based Fertilisers and Chemicals Travancore
Limited (FACT) is finalising a proposal for setting up a mega
    Rs.1 billion bio-technology-cum-food processing park
    . The
proposal is to be submitted to the federal ministry of food
processing soon, an official of the state-owned firm said.
‘The Minister for Food Processing Industries Subodh Kant Sahay
has asked us to submit a project and we are finalising it. We will
set aside a 100 acre plot of land at our premises for this mega
project,’ G.C. Gopala Pillai, FACT chairman and managing director,
    told IANS.
Sahay has pledged a grant of Rs.500 million for the proposed food
processing park, he said. ‘Of the 100 acres, we will set aside 30 acres
for a bio-technology park which would have the status of a special
    economic zone,’
said Pillai. Kochi, of late, has become the centre of
attraction for most investors due to the modern connectivity available,
the proposed Vallarpadom container terminal, several leading IT firms
opening shop here, and an international airport.
